Making All Things New

Everyone is talking about leaving 2018 behind and all the “newness” to come in 2019. While I value reflecting over the past year and believe setting intentions are equally as important, there is something greater we need to remember.

I UNDERSTAND THE PRESSURE

I get it… The pressure in the new year to do better, make resolutions, set goals, and essentially change your life is overwhelming. New year, new you, huh? It’s a lot to put on one person, one day, one year. I know sometimes we feel like a new year will fix all of our problems, and that life somehow “resets” when the clock strikes midnight. But what happens when something bad happens on January 16th?

Last year, tragedy struck my family on January 16th. And again on January 24th. And again on January 27th.

The month of January 2018 was the hardest month of my life. My aunt passed away tragically and unexpectedly, my childhood dog was attacked and almost died, and my dad was admitted to the hospital. All within a span of 3 weeks. During this time, I was thrown into the work position that my aunt had because someone had to do it, even though I had no idea what I was doing. I was spending 9-10 hours/day at the office simply trying to figure it all out. I went straight from her funeral to the office. When I tell you this was the hardest month of my life, believe it.

I had so many people say “wow, just throw the whole year away!!!”

What a sad way to live life, waiting for a new year to experience joy.

GOD MAKES ALL THINGS NEW

It doesn’t take a brand new year to experience wholeness. To let go of the hurt, the mistakes, the pain, or whatever may have happened to you — whether it was in 2018 or just this morning. We don’t need a whole new year to experience hope, and a clean slate. God gives that to us FREELY!! We get to give our brokenness, our hurt, our fear, our deepest darkest moments to Jesus so that we can experience His joy.

Feel your pain. Feel your sorrow. Feel all of the feelings you are experiencing — but please remember that when we turn to Christ with these feelings, we allow Him to make all things new. We don’t have to throw the whole year away, or stay sucked into an identity that says “this is a terrible year.”

Our time on this earth is limited. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to waste my time putting my identity in some worldly tragedy instead of Christ Jesus.

IT’S IN THE SCRIPTURE

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Lamentations 3:22-23

His mercies are new EVERY MORNING!!!!! Hallelujah, thank you Jesus!

Rest in His promises.

Whatever happens today, tomorrow, or in 10 months… I pray we all rest in Christ’s glory & sovereignty. His peace. His mercies that are new every morning. 🙏🏼 #HappyNewYear #2019
