Top Launching Mistakes in Online Businesses (and How to Avoid Them)

Launching might not be new for you, but HOW you’re doing them might be costing you BIG TIME dollar bills. 

There are so many backend pieces that need to be put in place to have the most profitable launch possible. And who doesn’t want that? 

What ends up happening is entrepreneurs sit down to map out a launch and they end up confronted with the reality of how much work actually goes into. They push it back because they don’t have the time. 

Where do we start? 

REVERSE ENGINEERING. 

Map out the dates you need everything completed by. Give yourself AT LEAST a month of cushion time. There needs to be enough time not only to launch, but time for testing, tweaking, quality checks, and anything random that pops up. Plus, no one wants to feel rushed. 

So first, let’s go over some of the biggest mistakes I see:

With the dozens of launches I’ve helped execute, these are some of the biggest mistakes I see people make:

Trying to do an entire launch in 2 weeks.

  • This is why launching feels so stressful. You forget things, you don’t fill your program or course, and you know deep down it could have gone better.

Overlooking ALL of the necessary pieces.

  • There’s copy, graphics, social posts, systems set up, promotions, the list goes on.
  • Each stage of the launch has its must-haves: Conversion event, open cart, and onboarding.

Speaking of onboarding…

  • This is often SUPER overlooked. If your onboarding is a mess and has errors….this is NOT a good first impression. Which you only get ONCE.
  • This includes at minimum: Are they booking a call or CTA to a sales page? Once they purchase, how will you deliver contracts? You also need to automate your questionnaire and welcome packet, and link to Voxer or Slack. 

Not creating email lists.

  • Not creating email lists for those who have purchased vs. not purchased yet.

Personal and direct outreach.

  • Not doing personal and direct outreach for people who are clicking but not buying. This is a game-changer right now because the personal touch is trending in online business. 

Do you have any extras?

  • Do you have bonuses planned? Payment plans worked out and set up?
  • And if you’re doing a course or program, getting that course into the platform is a whoooole other project in itself.

I can’t emphasize it enough: The more time you give yourself to prep and plan, the better off you are. 

Often times, I start planning a quarter ahead with clients and for my own launches because there are so many pieces to the puzzle.
